Ode To Spring

Ode To Spring

Oh spring how glorious are thou?
So bathed in glorious splendor
Filled with laughter and joy
As flowers adorn the homes of women
Money flee’s the pockets of men
As spring begs for gifts for women
Shiny baubles and sweet smelling perfumes
Keep the male from sleeping upon the couch
So I say to you dear Quist
Take heed of my words and hear them
Many shiny things you must buy
Or to the dark side you will succumb
Shiny and pricy are diamonds
But cubic zirconium is the same for less
So spring inspires thought
To the minds of men
and begs for cheaper ways to keep the females at bay
Flowers are all around yet from the store they must come
Wrapped in foil and arranged by women
All for the low low price of an arm and a leg
Take flowers from nature my dear young ward
and you will survive what you can afford
So beware young quist
This thing called spring
So glorious is it
Yet so costly a thing.

SPRING BREAK!!!!!!!

Spring break, that joyous time of the year when the little children frolick in the hay fields. When they go out early in the morning to entertain themselves churning butter, the smell of cow manure greeting their nostrils and bringing the fresh realization of joyous manual labor!!!

Now seriously spring break was perty darned fun if I do say so myself. My father and I took my little brother out for a rousing game of golf. I would recommend that some of you join us for one of these games but I must say that it would be harmful to my testimony. My father gave it a valiant shot but he lost by two strokes.

The other portion of my spring break was spent on good ole’ manual labor! I got to go and stack bricks behind our tool shed wich involved loading them onto a trailor taking them behind the shed unloading the trailor then stacking them about 5 feet high… all in all it was uhmmm… fun?

Plans for spring break!

SPRING BREAK!!
This spring break will be filled with mystery and wonder! The days will be started with sleep and followed up possibly by food, perhaps an omelette or maybe a smoked sausage. Regardless of my food choices there will undoubtedly be involvement with my feet and a soccer ball. With my head held high I shall parade around the glorious town of Martinsville in search of entertainment.
So I ask you men! Who is with me!!!! Who will join me in my quest for entertainment? Who will come and take time out of their lives to talk to me at work so that I wont be bored? Who will give me money?…… well then…. With the NCAA tournament starting soon I will most likely be found following the path of the Duke Blue Devils as they make their way through the tournament. With players like Demarcus Nelson and Freshmen of the year Kyle Singler, and stunning point guard Greg Paulus leading the team I can see them being a serious contender for this tournaments, and I hope to see them cutting down the net at the end of it.

The Final Stretch!

So it’s finally here, the last nine weeks of my high school life… I would like to pause for a moment to recognize my classmates that have not made it to this point…….

Now on with the show!!!! I plan on closing out these nine weeks with a BANG!!! The ACC tournament is coming up which I fully expect the Duke Blue Devils to win, this is followed by the NCAA tournament, which I also expect Duke to win.

Another point of interest, our girls soccer team has begun their season, I’ve been going out and practicing with them a little and this season should be uhmm… Interesting to say the least.

Most of my actual SCHOOl yeah will be spent attempting to pull my grades back up to A’s so that I dont have to take final exams.

But yeah that about summarizes the final portion of my High-School career.

And so begins Chapter 2

As we begin our escapade also known as our second semester, our teacher would like for us to lay out a plan, a map of sorts, of our outlook on the second semester.  I look forward to this as a semester in which I must raise a few grades and maintain the rest, so that I will not be required to take the arduous tests known as our final exam. This semester will include events in the world such as the Splendid Super Bowl, The Noble NCAA Tournament, and our sumptuous spring soccer season.

It shall indubitably contain many changes to my life as I near the end of this woebegone venture known as my school carreer. These changes shall include things such as incessant testing of my knowledge on these subjects that I am forcibly subjugated to every week or so. My days will undoubtedly consist of coming to this learning establishment to be pounded with information for several unvarying months of my life.

This place shall certainly pick up its intensity to force me to obtain the knowledge that has been forced on me for the last 13 years of my existence on this rock, we call earth. And so I shoulder the burden of knowledge once again and head forth into the flaming pit that they call “Higher Education” and once again suffer through the arduous task of test and notetaking. And so I leave you with this statement “Of all the things I have accomplished in life, walking down these halls day in and day out to be subjugated to the indoctrinated whims of proffesional educators, ranks among the most unpleasent.”-David R. Miller.

If I could change one thing about Thanksgiving

If I could change one thing about thanksgiving, it would probably be where my family spends their time. When everyone finally gets to where we are staying it usually ends up that everyone catches up on what we missed over the past year on the first day. The second day and so on usually consists of the parents breaking out their laptops, the kids getting in the cars and going somewhere, and otherwise no real contact after that. So if I could change one thing I would make at least a few hours a day devoted entirely to spending time with the family. Possibly some board games, or cards, and meals would be eaten together, and more time would be spent on them that to scarf down your food and get back to what you were doing before. Also I would probably have to ban cell-phone use considering as how I lost about 4 hours of time with my cousins that I get to see about 3 times a year because they were too busy talking to their girlfriends.David

I just don’t have time to do that

Our teacher Mr. Quist gave us an assignment recently to put our weekly activities day by day into an excell spread sheetin half hour increments. We started off just putting down our usual schedule for each day,E.G.(sleep patterns, phone time, etc…).

After we finished entering in our information we ran an equation to total up how much time we spent on each activity. The three formost in my weekly routine were  of course sleep, then school, and finally entertainment(tv,video games etc…)  the totals came out to 58.5 hours for sleep, 37.5 hours for school, and 19.5 for entertainment.

The results of this did not really surprise me too much because I knew that sleep would take up the most time, and that I was in school for a large portion of my week as well, and that when I got home I usually like to relax for a while before I go do soccer or whatever other physical activity I can find.

I don’t think that this study will have very much impact on my life other than possible getting me to change my entertainment routine to allow for more time to get outside and get ready for spring soccer, and soccer when I get to college.David

Fast food is not so fun

In computer class we were given an assignment to find the nutritional facts of a meal that we eat at the tree following restaurants. Burger King, McDonalds, and Wendys. We found the calories, calories from fat,non fat calories, and the percentage fat. And made a pie chart from the information we found.

One of the meals that I chose was a McDonalds double quarter pounder with cheese, a large sweet tea, and large fry.  The sandwich had 740 calories, with a 51% percentage fat, The sweet tea had no calories so it had 0% percentage fat, the fries had 570 calories calories and a 47% percentage fat. When I added up the numbers and did the math for the percentage fat, I found that, the selected meal alone had 1,310 calories and 50% percentage fat.

Looking at that information surprised me very much, considering that the recommended calorie intake for a person is around 2-2500 calories a day, and that with that one meal I had taken in over half of them,in one sitting.

I dont think that this new information will change my life in any way, because while I do take in more calories per sitting than I should I am also physically active enough to burn those calories off after I take them in. This information may affect me later in life if I can’t continue to play sports.David

Questions

My school recently had Bryan College’s worldview team come in and explain a few things about worldviews to us, Our computer teacher then decided to give us some questions to answer on our blogs and here they are.

1. What is a worldview?

Well a worldview is simply A group of beliefs that influence the way you live and think about things you do.

2. What is so important about someones worldview?

A worldview is important because it defines how one lives one’s life, If you didn’t have a worldview then you would have no response to anything in the world.

3.Did you ever realize that worldviews other than xianity were being presented to you?

Yes, I realized it a while ago when I actually started paying attention to the things that I watched rather than just soaking them in.

4.In the last month, identify one or more worldviews, other than a Biblical Worldview) that have been presented to you without your awareness and describe how they were presented to you.

Over the past few weeks I have been debating with someone on another wordpress blog his responses and such have made it abundantly clear that his worldview is quite strongly atheist.

5. Describe something you learned about a biblical worldview that you didn’t know before the lectures.

Well considering that most of their speeches were essentially my bible class I didn’t really glean anything new from it.

6.How has the presentation of worldviews changed your perspective or thoughts on your life as a xian/non-xian?

As I said in the last question I didn’t really glean anything new from the presentations so it didn’t really change my perspective of how I live my life.
